Ryde Pierhead

Ryde Pierhead (IOW Platform Refurb Scheme) for OSL Global (South Western Railway)

Pierhead station is approximately 120 m long and varies in width. The entire structure is a steel structure set over the sea, mainly encased in concrete. Adjacent sectiopns of the disused pier were in poor condition.

The scheme was to raise the platform gauge by 400mm and close off the rear section of the platform with a handrail system to prevent passengers accessing a disused section of the platform.

Hammond ‘Mountbridge’ platform systemTM was installed. The works were completed in four shifts for the main platform works. Additional access ramps with dda handrails were installed to the pierhead end.

Ryde Esplanade

The works at Ryde Esplanade station comprised the installation of ‘Mountbridge’ raised platform system.

The platform radius was set on a very tight convex curve. The platform was part traditional build and part steel pier construction set over the sea. Adjacent stations were Ryde Pierhead and Ryde St Johns.

Due to increases in platform height to suit the new passenger trains the existing rear platform fences were extended in height.

Lake Station

Lake station on the Isle of Wight is approximately 80 m in length but quite narrow in cross section and is entirely constructed of a timber supporting structure set on concrete piles.

The platform was raised approximately 300mm utilising Hammond ‘Mountbridge’ platform system overlaid with dura frp deck set on adjustable pedestals.

The rear fences were replaced, and the entrance ramp modified.

Needham Market Railway Station for Abellio Greater Anglia

Existing platform 2 was an insitu cast concrete deck in poor condition, and placed on a bullhead rail steel substructure.

During a 52 hour possession, the entire concrete deck was removed and replaced with Hammond Mountbridge adjustable frp platform systemTM. (Patent no 2515519).

The entire length of platform was replaced in approximately 36 hours within the possession period. Further works undertaken included re-surfacing platform 1, and re-lining an existing subway.

Elephant & Castle

The existing platform construction comprised of an elevated precast concrete platform, (8 metre above road level) mounted above the original brick arch viaduct, the existing platform was then overlaid with 100mm deep asphalt finish.

The Mountbridge adjustable frp platform systemTM (Patent no 2515519) was overlaid above this construction to overcome the severe stepping distance issues at the platform. There was a requirement to raise the platform level by 150/200mm and similar figures for oversail.

Sandown Station

Sandown station is located on the Isle of Wight. The works at Sandown P1 and P2 required the platform gauging height to be increased by approx. 300mm.

To platform 1 and 2 the existing platform was overlaid with Hammond ‘Mountbridge adjustable platform system TM, and incorporates permanent white lining and tactile paving.

During the course of the works a large passenger shelter was also raised, and ramps installed to improve dda access to the platforms.
